Introduction to our Healthcare Practice

The Healthcare Services (HCS) team covers healthcare provision and medtech. We largely work with private providers (who can be privately or publicly funded), who are often fast-growing PE-owned companies.

We cover the full range of settings in healthcare (from primary care to specialist clinics (dentistry, ophthalmology, fertility, diagnostic imaging, etc.), hospitals, mental health, social care, elderly care, etc.) and types of products in medtech (both large equipment, e.g. MRI scanners, medtech (e.g. hip / knee prostheses) and consumables).  We also go quite deep vertically into each segment (e.g. in dentistry, we cover clinics, labs, manufacturing of dental protheses, consumables distribution, etc.) and have several Partners dedicated to digital health.

Our work splits, roughly, into 50% growth strategy (e.g. new service launches, international strategy, pricing, clinician engagement, etc.) and 50% transaction support (either sell-side or buy-side, with a bias towards the former).

We work as a European team, selling and staffing projects across a wide European footprint, and while that does not mean increased travel for teams, it does mean that you will get to get to know a variety of European healthcare markets. We also love bringing the European HCS team together from the social perspective!

What we are looking for:

Our Managers are responsible for leading case teams, client engagements and business development activities alongside the Healthcare Partners in order to build the practice. A Manager will usually work on 1-2 projects at a time and will be involved in a range of business development and demand generation activities, including writing proposals, leading pitch presentations and engaging with clients on emerging trends / new opportunities.

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Understand the critical issues affecting the client, and then work directly with clients and Partners to set project objectives, define project scope and develop analytical frameworks
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the project team (of typically 4-6 consultants and associates)
  • Structure and assign work responsibilities to the team around discrete modules of work and hypotheses
  • Oversee research & analysis conducted by the team and synthesise findings
  • Develop and mentor the team to build and refine their individual skills and capabilities
  • Engage with the client and client teams to appropriately share findings and recommendations based upon the team’s research and analyses
  • Support the Healthcare Practice in strengthening L.E.K.’s relationship with existing clients and in building new relationships
  • Contribute to the management and growth of the practice and the firm through involvement in other key areas of the business such as professional development / training, recruitment and Knowledge Management

Specific skills

  • Outstanding academic achievement
  • 5-8+ years of relevant strategy consulting experience in the healthcare sector
  • Additional corporate experience in the industrial or Private Equity Industry is also appreciated
  • Strong communication skills, alongside demonstrated teamwork & leadership
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills combined with proven expertise in strategy consulting approaches
  • Proven experience in mentoring and coaching people in multiple dimensions including analytical skills, project management, client relationship management, and interpersonal skills
  • Numerically literate, strong excel skills, and comfortable with data interrogation and reporting
  • Strong project management skills including work planning, presentation development and quality control of analysis
  • Fluency in English, additional European languages are advantageous
