The opportunity:

L.E.K.’s Data and Analytics practice works with clients to help them unlock the value of Data & Analytics as well as work alongside project teams in solving a range of analytical problems, enabling L.E.K. to provide clients with the best possible advice.

As part of our rapidly growing practice, you will be working alongside an experienced team to develop cutting edge solutions to our clients’ toughest commercial problems and help them successfully adopt Data & Analytics.

Our collaborative approach to analytics is unique: firm-wide we leverage a high-powered self-service toolkit to build the analysis that underpins our commercial recommendations. In addition to advising clients directly, as a Data Scientist, you will be working alongside these teams, executing analysis, providing guidance, training, and coaching, as well as building solutions to the most complex challenges.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Scope, design, execute and deploy complex analysis to solve our clients’ commercial problems
    • Analytical needs include data aggregation / creation, data cleaning / manipulation, deploying data science techniques (e.g., machine learning, predictive modelling, etc.) and creating visualisations
  • Advising project teams on analytical approaches and providing coaching to junior consultants on applying data science techniques
  • Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders and use your technical expertise to continuously innovate on the IP toolkit, service lines and proprietary data assets we can offer
  • Create production quality ML pipelines to develop and deploy scalable data science products
  • Support development and delivery of client proposals where data science is critical to the scope of work. This includes demonstrating our work and capabilities in Powerpoint format
  • Contributing to L.E.K.’s thought leadership and publications within commercial analytics, data science and AI
  • Stay up to date on best-in-class software, tools, and techniques to ensure that we can provide clients with best-in-class solutions

 What we are looking for:

The Data Scientist role suits anyone with a passion for learning and experimenting with new technologies and connecting these technologies to commercial outcomes. In addition to technical skills, we are looking for bright and driven people who want to use analytics within high-impact commercial contexts, and help others do the same.

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in data science applied to solve commercial problems
  • Degree in a quantitative and/or business discipline preferred, examples include Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, Economics
  • Strong knowledge, experience, and fluency in a wide variety of tools including Python, R, Spark, SQL, Azure
    • familiarity with cloud database such as Snowflake and analytical tools such as Alteryx and Tableau preferred
  • Technical understanding of machine learning algorithms; experience with deriving insights by performing data science techniques including classification models, clustering analysis, time-series modelling, NLP
    • technical knowledge of optimisation is a plus
  • Hands-on experience with manipulating and extracting information on a variety of large both structured and unstructured datasets; comfortable with best data acquisition and warehousing practices
  • Experience with commercial business analytics solving strategic problems
    • experience at a consulting firm / agency is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both written (including Powerpoint) and oral; ability to explain complex algorithms to business stakeholders
  • Experience with product development tools (e.g., Agile, DevOps, git, CI/CD) is a plus
